Fall jacket inspiration
Now that autumn is here I’m planning to make a new jacket for myself. Jackets are actually my favorite thing to sew I think...there’s a certain complexity sewing wise which is interesting for me and they get a lot of wear so it’s definitely a win-win. Hello September! I’m back at writing my regular posts here at the blog. August has been nice to be honest. It has been full of time to do things that bring me joy...I’ve seen old friends, I have been knitting, there has been time to eat well and find motivation for exercise. I’ve been working with the shop, preparing all your orders, sourcing new materials and choosing color combinations for new bramaking kits. I’ve also started to work on a new pattern, I’m excited to tell you more when it’s in a more advanced stage. I’ve been sewing some personal projects for myself too. And I’ve been taking a couple of interesting Coursera courses in the evenings. I’ve been able to be alone a lot. It’s something that makes me happy, something I really need and something I’ve been missing since the beginning of spring.
In general I’ve been immersed in a really organized, low stress, maybe I could even say meditative, daily practice. My time here in Estonia is always very very different compared to how I spend my days in Madrid and this time is no exception. There’s no big city noise, no time spent commuting to work, no running around doing errands. The days feel longer, everything feels kind of calmer. I mostly love it...but I also miss the city so much after a couple of weeks, what can I say?? This year we’re staying here a couple of weeks more for some personal circumstances (everything is OK!) while I’ll also be keeping my eye on how the pandemic situation is evolutioning over in Madrid. It has been such a relief to not have to wear a mask for more than a month now as the numbers have been more or less under control here (they are rising but it’s not remotely comparable with Spain). But the “real life” with school and presencial work is waiting for us back at home, let’s just hope that everything will be clearer once we get there.
September also marks the birthday of my shop! It’s been four years now since I opened it on Etsy and I can say it’s finally working really nicely and I’m proud of all we've achieved. I hope this project will bring me joy and lots of work during many more years to come! During the past month and this one too I’m actually myself preparing all the orders (usually my mom is preparing them here) and it’s taking me back to the early days of the shop when I was doing all of it in my first small studio in Madrid. Thank you everyone who has placed an order for supplies or has bought a pattern from the shop, your support means so much!
So, after this long introduction here goes a post about my favorite lingerie and swimwear makes with Studio Costura Patterns from the past month of Braugust. It was so great seeing all your projects and it was hard to choose just one part of them...I’m so grateful to everyone who posts their makes with my patterns so others can see them. I’m blown away by your pretty photos every time I see a notification at Instagram...thank you for inspiring me! So here are some of my latest favorites (Braugust + some from the summer too) but you can of course search through the pattern hashtags to see all the makes from earlier, there are so many beautiful ones there too.
Hola septiembre! Estoy de vuelta escribiendo los posts en el blog. Agosto ha sido bueno la verdad. Ha sido lleno de cosas que me hacen feliz...he visto a amigos de toda la vida, he estado tejiendo, ha habido tiempo para comer bien y para tener motivación para hacer ejercicio. He estado trabajando con la tienda, preparando todos vuestros pedidos, organizando los materiales nuevos y preparando combinaciones de colores para kits. También he empezado a trabajar con un nuevo patrón, ya os contaré cuando esté un poco más avanzado el proceso. He cosido algunas cosas para mí. Y por las tardes he estado haciendo unos cursos de Coursera. He tenido mucho tiempo para estar sola. Es algo que necesito, que me hace feliz y que ha faltado en mi vida desde la primavera.
En general he estado sumergida en una rutina diaria bastante organizada, de bajo estrés, quizás incluso podría decir “meditativa”. Mi tiempo aquí en Estonia siempre es muy diferente a mi vida normal en Madrid y esta vez no es una excepción. No hay ruido de la ciudad grande, no hace falta gastar tiempo en desplazarse para ir a trabajar, no hace falta correr y hacer recados. Los días parecen más largos, todo está más calmado. Me encanta la mayor parte del tiempo...pero también echo de menos mucho a la ciudad después de unas semanas, qué puedo decir?? Este año nos quedamos unas semanas más por motivos personales (todo está bien!) mientras también estaré pendiente de cómo evoluciona la situación de pandemia en Madrid. Ha sido tan bueno no tener que llevar mascarilla durante más de un mes ya que los números aquí estában bajo control (aunque ahora están subiendo un poco, aún así no es comparable ni de lejos con España). Pero “la vida real” con colegio y trabajo presencial nos espera en casa, solo puedo tener esperanza de que las cosas estén más claras una vez que lleguemos allí.
Septiembre también es el mes de aniversario de mi tienda! Ya son cuatro años desde que abrí mi tienda en Etsy y ahora puedo decir que por fin está funcionando bien, estoy muy orgullosa por todo lo que hemos conseguido. Espero que este proyecto me de felicidad y trabajado durante muchos más años! Durante el mes pasado y este estoy de hecho yo otra vez preparando todos los pedidos (normalmente lo hace mi madre aquí) y eso me recuerda los días de inicio de la tienda cuando lo hice todo desde mi primer pequeño estudio en Madrid. Muchas gracias a todo el mundo que ha comprado materiales o patrones de la tienda, vuestro apoyo significa mucho!
Así que después de esta larga introducción, aquí va el post sobre mis proyectos favoritos que la gente ha hecho con los patrones de Studio Costura durante el mes de agosto en Braugust. Ha sido muy guay ver todo lo que habéis hecho y es difícil destacar solo una parte de las fotos...estoy muy agradecida a todo el mundo que ha subido fotos con mis patrones para que las podamos ver. Me dejáis flipada con vuestras fotos cada vez que Instagram me notifica de algo nuevo...gracias por inspirarme! Así que aquí van algunos de mis favoritos del mes pasado (de Braugust + algunos del verano también) pero obviamente hay mucho más si miráis los hashtags de los patrones.

Lingerie sewing inspiration // Inspiración para coser lencería
It’s Braugust time again! If you’re not familiar with this IG photo challenge, let me tell you briefly how it goes. Braugust is a great opportunity to learn a lot about sewing lingerie: seamstresses from all over the world participate in this photo challenge hosted by Ying from Tailor Made Shop. Every day has a theme and you can share a picture with this theme in mind, but don’t get overwhelmed, you don’t need to post a picture every day (and of course you can if you want to)! Just see which days you’d like to post a photo and go ahead...also, you don’t need new photos or new makes to participate. I myself always use my older photos, I actually feel it’s a great opportunity to show them again in context. So whether you’ll post one photo or thirty...it will be really cool to see your makes during this month.

Braugust es una buena oportunidad para aprender más sobre todo relacionado con coser lencería: costureras de todo el mundo participan en el evento creado por Ying de Tailor Made Shop y comparten fotos de sus proyectos.
Cada día tiene una temática y tienes que compartir la foto teniendo en cuenta eso...pero no te agobies, no hace falta publicar algo todos los días (aunque puedes hacerlo si quieres por supuesto) ! Simplemente mira los días que quieras publicar algo y hazlo...tampoco hace falta que sea algo nuevo que no hayas publicado antes, de hecho yo siempre saco fotos más antiguas porque así puedo volver a mostrar cosas hechas antes en un contexto nuevo. Así que sea que publiques una foto o que publiques treinta...va a estar guay ver tus proyectos durante este mes.

So I thought that I could share with you four indie lingerie brands that I really like and that you should definitely follow for inspiration (all the photos included are from their websites and Instagram accounts)!

Como ya he mencionado en esta entrevista, no tengo una respuesta muy sofisticada para esta pregunta, jaja...normalmente simplemente pasa por mi carpeta de lencería en Pinterest (te recomiendo echarle un vistazo, seguro que algo encontrarás entre los 800+ pines, jeje) o veo lo que hacen mis marcas de lencería favoritas. Así que pensé que estaría guay compartir con vosotras cuatro marcas indie de lencería que me gustan mucho y que deberíais seguir para mucha inspiración (todas las fotos son de sus páginas web y cuentas de Instagram)!

First is Elma Lingerie and if you’ve been following me over at @studiocosturashop you already know that I adore this brand! Elma makes bespoke lingerie for smaller cup sizes and everything she creates is amazing. I’m so in love with her lace applique + satin pieces...so delicate, so beautiful. All her pieces are (hand)made to order in California.
La primera es Elma Lingerie y si me has seguido desde hace tiempo en @studiocosturashop sabrás de sobra que me encanta esta marca! Elma hace lencería única para tallas pequeñas y todo lo que crea es muy bonito. Estoy super enamorada de las aplicaciones de encaje en telas satinadas...es todo tan delicado y bello. Sacha kimmes
Sacha Kimmes makes some very pretty lingerie with a signature style. In her collection you can find romantic ruffles and sexy open back panties...and you can always expect a sweet bow tie here and there. All the pieces are made by her in Belgium.
Sacha Kimmes hace lencería muy bonita con un estilo muy suyo. En su colección puedes encontrar frunces románticos y braguitas sexys con la espalda abierta...también verás casi siempre bonitos lazos como el toque final. Todas las piezas están hechas por ella en Bélgica.
angela friedman
Angela Firedman makes romantic vintage inspired lingerie out of silk and French lace...you can see the luxury from a mile away! I first discovered her work through some pretty bralettes featuring floral prints and then saw all her other work featuring a lot of ruffles and lace. All the lingerie is made in-house in England.
Angela Friedman hace lencería con aire vintage romántico usando seda y encajes franceses...puedes ver el lujo en sus piezas de lejos! Descubrí su trabajo a través de bralettes de bonitos estampados florales y después vi todo el encaje y frunces que ella usa. Todas sus piezas están hechas en su estudio en Inglaterra.
bimby and roy
My last favourite is Bimby and Roy, an Australian brand that produces comfy bralettes and panties using adorable prints. I especially love their designs as you can instantly get inspiration for pieces made with knit fabrics! The two sisters who started the brand design their pieces in Australia and produce ethically in Fiji islands.
Mi último favorito es Bimby and Roy, una marca australiana que hace bralettes y braguitas cómodos con estampados muy bonitos. Me gustan mucho sus piezas porque enseguida me inspiran para pensar en piezas que podría coser con telas de punto! Las dos hermanas que crearon el proyecto diseñan su lencería en Australia y lo producen en las islas Fiji.

It’s time for some inspiration! I was meaning to make some kind of recap of the makers who inspire me in the sewing and knitting world for some time now. I was thinking if I should share my favourites over at Instagram stories or in a newsletter (I send one every week, if you want to be up to date with all things Studio Costura, I’d be happy if you’d sign up!) but finally I decided to make a blog post...because there’s a lot of eye candy I want to show you and I think it’s the best format! So let’s go see who inspires me...I’ve divided this post in different blocks: seamstresses who mainly sew garments, lingerie makers, modern quilters and knitters. All the photos are from their Instagram feeds, click on a photo to go there directly!
Es la hora de inspiración! Hace tiempo ya que quería hacer como una especie de recopilación de gente que me inspira en el mundo de costura y punto. Pensaba por si iba a compartir mis favoritos en las historias de Instagram o en mi newsletter (envío uno cada semana, si quieres estar al día con todas las cosas de Studio Costura, puedes apuntarte!) pero al final decidí hacer un post aquí en el blog...porque hay imágenes demasiado bonitos y creo que este es el mejor formato! @abolaijooo has such a great style, basically whatever she puts on looks effortlessly modern and chic. @maloriemakes has a handmade wardrobe that really looks so great together, she’s mixing together great basic wardrobe staples with trendy accents and her Me Made May looks are very inspiring.

@birdy_sew_obsessed is an amazing seamstress who sews soooo much, be prepared to see her cute outfits, pretty lingerie makes and lots of adorable plants! @phoeberosita has a feed that looks like a fashion magazine, her makes are on trend and her outfits are really inspiring.

@threadsnips has a handmade wardrobe that’s like a breeze of modern fashion air, if this was a thing, haha. Her outfits combine really cool elements and she has the best eye for prints. @carolerankin has so many sweet makes on her feed, she combines pretty prints with classic solids and I really love her outfit photos...and her hair!!!

Want to see some true couture sewing in action? @tany0471 is sewing some high class garments and showing us so many sewing progress photos and insights...every time I look at her feed I feel like I enter a fancy atelier. @madebytoya has the coolest vibe and I love the garments she sews for herself and her daughters, she also makes cool screen prints and other amazing work so her feed is full of inspiration.
Quieres ver alguien cosiendo en un nivel superior? @tany0471 está cosiendo proyectos de nivel modista y nos enseña un montón de cosas sobre su proceso de costura...cada vez que veo su cuenta me parece que entro a un taller de alta costura. @madebytoya tiene un aire muy moderno y me encanta la ropa que hace para ella misma y para sus hijas, también hace serigrafía muy guay y su cuenta está llena de inspiración.

If I had my own custom quilted blanket line (I wish!!!!) it would look exactly like what @kindredquiltingco is doing...I’m soooo in love with her modern designs! @vacilandoquilting is another maker who really made me discover the modern quilting world and her work is very inspiring.

There are so few men in the sewing world but @the_tattooed_quilter is one of the most inspiring ones I’d say...he comes up with the cuuutest quilt block designs! @missmake is a rising quilt pattern designer and I can see what all the hype is about, finally I can see quilt patterns that are just screaming my name, haha.

@quiltkween is taking the modern quilting onto a next level with her clean lines and beautiful geometric shapes, a true inspiration! @khquilts has a capacity to combine colors so well, I love her work with all these pastel tones.

@sari_n_ is great at combining modern lines with elegant details and her knitting is just very inspiring to me. Every time @seungheeknits posts a sweater she has made I want one for myself, her makes are that good!

First of all, can I live on the feed that @jessljacobs has created?? Second, all her makes are beautiful and all her photos are beautiful, instant love when I discovered her! When I see all these amazing knits made by @lialykke I just wish that sweater weather would last all year long...and I don’t even like cold...that’s how pretty her makes are.

@clarasofiafalk is both knitting and sewing but I wanted to especially include her knitting in this block because I love love love her makes, she’s a colorwork genius. I had to show this sweater made for her daughter because I just love everything about it! @mere_berry also is both a knitter and a seamstress and I’m totally in love with her knits...and her photos...they just bring so much joy!

Inspiración para el estuche / Zipper pouch inspiration
Hola, hoy estoy de vuelta con la entrada que prometí la última vez: inspiración para coser estuches con cremalleras. El patrón gratis lo tienes en esta entrada y ahora te dejo algunas fotos de estuches para que veas que tienes muchísimas posibilidades de usar diferentes tejidos, tamaños y acabados. Todas las fotos son de mi carpeta de Pinterest.

You can find the free pattern in that post and in this post I’ll show you some photos so you can see that it’s possible to use so many different fabrics, sizes and finishings. All the photos are from my Pinterest board.
El mismo modelo es muy diferente si lo haces en formato pequeño o en formato grande, es muy fácil adaptar el patrón.
The same pattern can be easily adapted into different sizes and the results vary a lot.
Piensa en este patrón como base y de allí puedes ir avanzando hasta donde quieras. Estos bolsitos con asa no son nada más que estutches que tienen unas tiras de tela en las costuras laterales para enganchar las asas después. También le podrías poner un bolsillo extra cosiendolo antes de cerrar todo el estuche.
You can think about this pattern as a base and from there you can go to more advances levels if you wish. These shoulder bags are just zipper pouches with some fabric strips sewn into the side seams to attach the cord later on. You can also add an extra pocket, just sew it in before closing the whole pouch.
En vez de hacer el estuche con el fondo cuadrado puedes hacerlo curvado, simplemente modifica el patrón y corta las cuatro piezas de la misma forma.
Instead of making a squared bottom pouch you can also choose to make it round, just modify the pattern and cut four equal pieces.
Bordados, hilos, botones…todo vale para hacer un estuche original. Me gusta mucho también la idea de añadir algo de decoración al carrito de la cremallera.

Ya lo sé, que todavía no estamos ni en diciembre y yo aquí con mi post de regalos para navidades...pero quería compartir con vosotros algunas cositas que me parecen muy buenas para regalar en estas fechas para la gente que cose. Eso dicho, lo quería hacer antes de los descuentos de esta semana por Black Friday etc, porque seguramente si te planificas bien, puedes ahorrar unos cuantos euros al comprar tus regalos antes del último momento!
I know, we're not even in December yet and I'm here with my gift post...but I wanted to share with you some things I find really nice to give as gifts to sewers. That said, I wanted to post this before all the discounts this week for Black Friday etc, because you can really save some money when you buy your gifts before last minute rush.
1. LIBROS // BOOKS
Los libros de costura me encantan y qué mejor para regalar que un bonito libro que sirve tanto para inspiración como para aprender nuevas técnicas. Me gustan mucho los libros con proyectos porque también vienen patrones y todos los pasos detallados.
I love sewing books and what better thing to give as a gift than a beautiful book that inspires and also teaches you new sewing techniques. I love project based books because they normally come with patterns and step-by-step instructions.
"Handmade Style" de Anna Graham del blog Noodlehead es un libro muy muy bonito con fotos que hacen que quieras coser todos los proyectos en él! Vienen patrones de bolsos, colchas, una cartera, alfiletero etc todo con descripciones con dibujos. Yo lo tengo y me encanta, en breve haré una reseña del libro aquí en el blog.
"Little Things to Sew" de Liesl Gibson de la marca Oliver + S, es otro libro que tengo pendiente para enseñaros aquí. Tiene proyectos para niños que son monísimos y el libro en general es un regalo perfecto con patrones e instrucciones.
"Love at First Stitch" de Tilly Walnes del blog Tilly and the Buttons, es un libro pensado para los principiantes y te guiará en tu camino desde enhebrar la máquina hasta coser un vestido forrado. Tiene cinco parones de mujer con el aire vintage y viene con un montón de fotos de paso a paso. Es otro libro que tengo pendiente para mostraros, tengo que ponerme con la blusa que viene en él, es muy bonito!
"Jolies Tenues par Jolies Bobines" de Julie Houzet es el nuevo libro escrito por la creadora del popular blog frances Jolies Bobines y tiene también un montón de proyectos con muy buena pinta. Lo tengo en mi lista de deseos!
Handmade Style by Anna Graham from Noodlehead is a beautiful book with photos that make you want to sew all the proyects in it! There are patterns for bags, quilts, a wallet, a pincushion etc with detailed instructions with drawings. I have this book and I love it, soon there will be a little review of the book here too.
Little Things to Sew by Liesl Gibson from Oliver + S is another book in the list of things I have to post about. It has the sweetest projects for kids garments and toys and the book in general is a very beautiful gift with patterns and instructions.
Love at First Stitch by Tilly Walnes from the blog Tilly and the Buttons is a book dedicated to beginner sewists that will lead you from threading the sewing machine to sewing a lined dress. It comes with five sewing patterns for women with a vintage touch and lots of photos of all the steps. I really have to make the blouse from this book!
Jolies Tenues par Jolies Bobines by Julie Houzet is the new book from the writer behind a popular French sewing blog Jolies Bobines and it also has many cute projects in it. I have it in my wish list for sure!
2. CURSOS // COURSES
Me encanta que ahora puedes aprender sin salir de tu casa y totalmente a tu ritmo, soy muy fan de los cursos online porque te dan la libertad de volver a ver cada capítulo las veces que necesites y cuando te conviene.
Craftsy es un portal con muchísimos cursos de costura, patronaje y mil cosas más. Yo he hecho cursos de patronaje a medida y de lencería y puedo recomendarlos porque tienes mucha información y todo muy bien explicado.
Closet Case Patterns tiene el curso específico para aprender cómo coser el bikini/bañador Sophie y era el primero que hice cuando empecé la aventura con la lencería...me encantó porque aparte de aprender todo sobre las prendas de baño, al llevar aros, este patrón es como coser un sujetador de verdad y puedes aplicar los nuevos conocimientos para lencería también.
En Domestika también hay muchos cursos, por ejemplo el de bordados que me parece un tema muy interesante, aparte estos cursos sí que están en castellano.
Por último, un curso de fotografía nunca viene mal. Tanto para mejorar tus fotos diarios como para compartir tus costuras con otras personas en el blog o por las redes sociales...no sabes con cuántas personas igual de apasionadas por la costura puedes conectar a través de fotos bien hechas compartidas por la red!
I love the fact that you can now learn without leaving your house and in your own time, I’m a big fan of online courses because you can watch all the lessons over and over again just when you need to.
Craftsy is an online learning platform with lots of courses about sewing, patternamking and many other things. I’ve taken the lingerie and patternmaking courses there and I can totally recommend them as you have so much information available in the program they offer.
Closet Case Patterns has a specific online course to learn how to sew a Sophie bikini/bathing suit and it was the first one I took before starting my adventures in the lingerie sewing world...I loved it because apart from learning all about swimwear sewing you also have a good starting point with bras as this pattern has wires and you can use the information in that class to sew lingerie too.
In Domestika there are many courses, I find the one about embroidery especially interesting. This platform is in Spanish!
For the last one: a photography course is never wasted of money. For getting better at taking your everyday photos and also for sharing your sewing progress in social media...you can’t even imagine with how many passionate sewing friends you can connect through good quality images of your work!
3. PATRONES // PATTERNS
Cuánto he aprendido a través de los patrones de costura desde que empecé!!! Olvídate de las revistas de patrones donde parece que las instrucciones están escritos en chino y pásate al mundo de los patrones de las marcas independientes, te vas a sorprender de lo fácil que es coser con un patrón bien hecho con todo detallado y con tutoriales sobre cada paso.
Si buscas un regalo para tu amiga costurera, por qué no sorprenderla con algo que quizás es un poco más avanzado pero le hará sentirse como una superwoman de costura? Con estos patrones seguramente aprenderá un montón de nuevas técnicas y hará prendas muy bonitas.

- Vaqueros Ginger Jeans de Closet Case Patterns: otro de los "difíciles". Yo ya los he hecho y fenomenal, no es tan difícil si vas paso a paso! Así que a por ellos, que es una prenda que se usa tanto!!
- Patrones de bordados diseñados por Sarah Benning: me parecen tan tan bonitos y el hecho de desconectarte y tomar ese rato para dedicarte a algo tan delicado como bordado tiene que molar mucho! Sus patrones vienen con mucha información sobre técnicas de bordado.
- Conjunto de patrones de lencería de Ohhh Lulu: bonito, bonito y bonito, qué más voy a decir!

You will be surprised about how easy it is to sew with good patterns with step by step instructions and lots of online tutorials.

Los kits de costura para proyectos concretos molan mucho porque no tienes que ir buscando cada pieza y puedes tranquilamente empezar con la parte guay, que obviamente es coser. Los hay de todo, pero pondré aquí algunos ejemplos.
El kit de vaqueros de Closet Case Patterns lleva todo lo que necesitas para coser los vaqueros, sólo tienes que buscar la tela y puedes comenzar.
EvieLaLuveDIY tiene en su tienda de Etsy varios kits con patrones y encajes para que puedas coser sus patrones con materiales que mejor vayan con el modelo.
En mi tienda de Studio Costura Shop puedes encontrar muchos kits de lencería que valen para coser tu propio sujetador y braguitas, sólo tienes que buscar el patrón que más te guste y manos a la obra!
En Purl Soho hay un montón de kits muy muy bonitos para todo tipo de labores. Por cierto, si todavía no conoces esa página, tienes que ver los tutoriales que tienen porque son una pasada de bonitos.

Would it be unicorns or whatever you’re into, you can have it printed on 20 different types of fabrics!

Mabel de Colette Patterns
Ya está aquí el tiempo bueno y lo que veo en mi lista de cosas para coser es: faldas, faldas, faldas. Me gusta llevar faldas pero me cuesta encontrar la manera de hacerlo en el invierno...hasta las medias más gordas no me convencen tanto como para aventurarme a pasar frío. Pero ahora sí que sí parece que se puede empezar a llevarlas y aquí están los patrones que más me han llamado la atención estos días.
El primero es Mabel de Colette Patterns y es una falda muy fácil de coser de tela de punto, un buen básico y además cómodo!
Moss de Grainline Studio
Moss es una falda corta también ideal para combinar con muchas prendas. Tiene prácticos bolsillos y el cierre de cremallera tipo vaquero adelante. Viene también en versión un poco más larga.
Ginger de Colette Patterns
Ginger tiene buen vuelo y es un modelo bastante clásico que va bien en colores lisos pero podría quedar también interesante con estampados para el verano, el patrón también tiene diferentes formas de la cinturilla.
Arielle de Tilly and the Buttons
Me encanta este detalle del cierre con botones de Arielle de Tilly and the Buttons, esta falda recta con pinzas viene en dos versiones de largo.

Selene tiene tres versiones para que puedas variar el detalle de los bolsillos. Es otro clásico y sus líneas verticales son muy favorables visualmente.
