I was in Porto (Portugal) this month and of course I had to look up some fabric and yarn shops…for souvenirs, you know (it’s not all about fish shaped fridge magnets although I managed to find a francesinha magnet on my last day, lol!). I was lucky enough to know Patricia from Instagram to ask if she knew any interesting shops so she asked her contacts and gave me a list. Sharing is caring so here goes a small list in case you’ll be visiting this popular destination. I’ve created a specific Google Map with all the places mentioned in this post, find it here!
If you know more nice fabric/yarn spots in Porto you can write me and I’ll add them here :)
I’ll also make a list of my favorite places in Madrid and the ones I know in Barcelona. It will be my homework for September!
The best place I visited was definitely Ovelha Negra, a sweet yarn shop that carries specialty yarns and accessories. The shopkeeper was friendly and the shop itself beautiful. You won’t leave without something pretty from this place…in my case it was a sweater quantity of Snefug yarn and a book about Estonian knitting!
Riera Alta is a fabric shop that carries lots of patchwork fabrics, sewing accessories and other quilting related stuff. Lots of variety and interesting finds. I got a cool sparkled vinyl type fabric from there which I’m planning to use for a travel make up bag or something similar.
Armazém Dos Linhos is a more traditional fabric shop that sells fabrics made in Portugal. They have a selction of different types of linen (I got a really nice viscose linen blend from there) and alo lots of traditional Portuguese prints (like the cross-stitch bird print that looked too cute to not get a piece).
And the last shop I visited but didn’t take a photo was Mundo Dos Tecidos. They had a decent variety of fabrics and remnants. I was planning to buy anything (I’ve mentioned three purchases already and I only had a carry-on bag, lol) but this cute floral stretch viscose just had to come home with me, haha.
Other shops that were recommended to me but I didn’t have time to visit this time:
And I just can’t leave you without these dessert recommendations!!!
The waiter at Jacóme asked if we’d wait for this really nice dessert that was just about to come out of the oven. So glad that we did, this was basically heaven. Still warm pear pie with mandarin ice-cream. Next level fantasy.
The seafood was also amazing. But the pie…
Cardamom iced tart. Go and try it at Restaurante Essência. It’s sooo worth it.
And for the traditional pastries, pastel de nata and all sorts of other lilttle fantasies…Confitería del Bolhão., so good!
Until next time Porto!!!
