After our little trip back in time at Almacén de Pontejos, let’s take a look at the fabric stores in the city center. For me, the three that stand out the most are Julián López, Ribes i Casals, and Tejidos Paredes. Each one is different and has its own charm, so I’ll tell you what to look for in each place.

Después de la experiencia de viaje en el tiempo en Almacén de Pontejos, vamos a ver qué tiendas de telas tenemos por el centro. Para mí las tres que más destacan son Julián López, Ribes i Casals y Tejidos Paredes. Cada una es diferente y tiene su aquel, así que te cuento qué mirar en cada sitio.

It’s about time, I’d say. After nine years of blogging, and probably thirteen years of buying fabrics in Madrid, I’m finally writing a post about fabric stores, haberdasheries, and places to buy yarn in Madrid. I’ve written similar posts about Barcelona and Porto, but I didn’t have one for Madrid. Don’t ask me why… but I’m here to change that.

Ya fue la hora, digo yo. Después de nueve años de este blog, y de probablemente después de unos trece años de comprar telas en Madrid, por fin escribo una entrada sobre las tiendas de telas, las mercerías y sitios para comprar lanas de Madrid. Llegué a escribir las mismas entradas sobre Barcelona y Oporto, pero no tenía la de Madrid. No me preguntes por qué…pero estoy aquí para ponerle remedio al asunto.

This summer I'm bringing you a couple of Hanna bikini hack tutorials (you can check all of them here scrolling down to swimwear tutorials), and here goes one about bindings. Essentially it's not brand new as I already used and showed how to do the binding technique both in this Hanna bikini flounce tutorial and in this Mara bralette bikini hack tutorial. But this time I wanted to try out other stitches so here's a little comparation about the different options and my tips for the best results. I'll first show you my stitch samples and then the finished makes.

En realidad, no es nada nuevo, ya que ya utilicé y mostré cómo coser usando ribetes tanto en este tutorial sobre el bikini con volantes como en este tutorial sobre cómo modificar el bralette Mara a un bikini. Pero esta vez quería probar otras puntadas, así que aquí tenéis una pequeña comparación entre las diferentes opciones y mis consejos para conseguir los mejores resultados. Primero cuento sobre mis muestras de puntadas y luego ya los resultados finales.

Here’s a fresh take on the Hanna bikini sewing pattern. I’ll show you how to add an extra band that is both a cute style element and it also provides more support. I also used a crossover hack for this version, so you can read about how to do that too. This tutorial is also available in a video format as part of the extra modules in the Hanna bikini online course.

This pattern makes a super versatile tote bag with all the nice details you wish a simple tote would include. The pattern includes two different versions and I’ll walk you through the different options on both of them.

My new studio in Madrid // Mi nuevo taller en Madrid

Dear reader, meet my very own studio. It’s hard to put all my feelings into a written post, but here goes something at least. This year, Studio Costura turned nine years old. If you go down the rabbit hole of this blog (or, well, the archives page—haha), you can find different posts about various stages of this project. It has been a long and curvy road to get to where I am today. And even though it sounds like a cheesy motivational quote, I have to say it: I would not be here if it weren’t for all the experiences, lessons, and people I’ve met during this journey.

Querida lectora, te presento mi taller. Es difícil describir todos mis sentimientos en una entrada escrita, pero aquí va algo por lo menos. Este año, Studio Costura cumplió nueve años. Si te pones a rebuscar en este blog (o, bueno, si te pasas por la página del archivo—jaja), encontrarás diferentes entradas sobre las distintas etapas de este proyecto. Ha sido un camino largo y lleno de curvas para llegar hasta donde estoy hoy. Y aunque suene como un algo escrito en una taza tipo Mr. Wonderful, tengo que decirlo: no estaría aquí si no fuera por todas las experiencias, lecciones y personas que he conocido durante este viaje.

Paynter jacket by Merchant and Mills

Meet my newest make, the Paynter jacket. This is actually a wearable toile, altough it has (almost) all the details like the original pattern so it wasn’t something quick to make as a test. Sewing this jacket was like putting together a slightly more complicated Ikea furniture (or a Lego set, if you will) and I enjoyed the experience a lot. It was slow, it included new techniques and the result is a true heirloom piece of clothing.

Vamos con mi último proyecto terminado, la chaqueta Paynter. En realidad, es una versión de “prueba llevable”, aunque tiene (casi) todos los detalles del patrón original, así que no fue algo rápido de hacer tipo prueba de retor o similar. Coser esta chaqueta fue como montar un mueble de Ikea un poco más complicado (o un set de Lego, si lo prefieres), y disfruté mucho la experiencia. Fue un proceso lento, incluyó nuevas técnicas y el resultado es una prenda realmente especial, una pieza para toda la vida.
