Bata kimono y lencería // Kimono robe and lingerie

Hola! Hoy traigo algo con más color de lo normal para mí, es la bata kimono del patrón de Nairam Kitty DIY*. Al principio tenía la idea de coserlo para mi madre pero al final a ella le pareció demasiado corto y a mí me encantó el resultado así que me lo quedé sin protestar, jaja.

Hey! Today I'm bringing you something a bit more colorful than usual for me, it's a kimono robe with a pattern from Nairam Kitty DIY*. At first I was going to sew it for my mother but in the end she found it too short for her and I loved the result so I kept it without any protests, hehe.

Para empezar, la tela es una viscosa estapada comprada en Tallinn y tiene un tacto como siempre muy suave. La diferencia con las viscosas que se encuentran normalmente es que ésta tiene un grosor medio, o sea no es tan fina y lo elegí especialmente por eso, porque aquí el verano no siempre significa calor (de eso más en el siguiente post donde os voy a mostrar toda la ropa que cosí para mi niña para que pueda jugar fuera con ese frío que hace, jaja). Fui a buscar la tela especialmente para este proyecto y esas flores me llamaron rápido la atención, tienen un aire oriental, verdad?

To start with, the fabric is a viscose print bought in Tallinn and it has a very soft hand as usual. The difference with most of the commonly found viscose fabrics is that it's not so delicate and fine, it has a middle weight and I chose it exactly because of that, because summer here doesn't always mean that it's hot (more about that in the next post where I'll show you all the clothes I've been sewing for my kid so she can play outside in this horrible weather, haha). I went to look for this fabric specially for that project and this one caught my eye quickly, don't you think it has a little oriental vibe there?

El patrón de bata kimono es sencillo y tiene una sola talla ya que es amplio y se cierra con tiras de tela que se ajustan según tus medidas. Cosí todas las costuras con costuras francesas para que quede bien rematado tanto de dentro como de fuera. No hice ninguna modificación de largos y me parece que para mí tiene justo la medida perfecta (mi altura es 173 cm, creo...jaja). El patrón viene con instrucciones en castellano en formato video en el canal de Nairam Kitty así que lo véis bastante claro allí.

The pattern for this kimono robe is easy and it has one size as it's quite large and closes with fabric straps to adjust to your size. I sewed everything with French seams to make it look good both on the inside and on the outside. I didn't modify any lengths and I find the general fit perfect for me (I'm 173cm tall...if I remember well..hehe). The pattern comes with Spanish instructions in a video tutorial format in Nairam Kittys channel so you can see the steps pretty clearly.

Ha sido la casualidad que me quedo con el kimono ya que lo pensé hacer para el regalo pero estoy muy contenta porque es super cómoda (bueno, hay que reconocer que ya que es una bata, es bastante obvio que es cómoda...). Hice las fotos por la mañana a primera hora (se nota en mi gran peinado...) y luego me quedé con él puesto durante un par de horas más, es que parece como una segunda piel. Nunca acabaré de adorar a las viscosas, jajaa.

Esta bata kimono me hace sentir femenina y todo (será porque la única bata que tengo es de forro polar, con estampado de zebra y la cupcha lleva orejas...), incluso me hace pensar que debería hacerme algún camisón de estos con encaje o algún pijama bonito. Ya que estamos, verdad, jajaja. Así que eso, me parece un proyecto muy bonito que sirve también para regalo (y autoregalo!) y mola mucho para el verano.

So it was a a coincidence that I kept the kimono as I made it for a present but I'm really happy because it's super comfortable (well, it's a robe after all, it's kind of obvious that it's comfortable...). I took the photos early in the morning (you can see that great morning hair there...) and later left it on for hours, it just feels like a second skin to me. I guess I'll never stop admiring viscose fabrics, hehe.

This kimono robe makes me feel quite feminine (maybe because the only robe I have is made from fleece, has a zebra print and ears on the hood...), it even makes me think about sewing a lace camisole or a pretty pajama or something. While in the mood, right, hehe. So that's it, I think it's a beautiful sewing project, ideal for giving as a gift (or for a gift for yourself!) and it's great for summer.

Más cositas: también le hice a mi hermana un bralette y una braguita para el conjunto. Ella me pidió que le copie un bralette que había comprado y que le gustó mucho y así lo hice. Es un modelo todo de encaje y lleva copas de foam para que sea más práctico. Las copas en el bralette de la tienda son preformadas de una pieza, pero yo usé el foam que se puede coser e hice las copas de dos piezas. Sólo lleva elástico en todo el contorno bajo el pecho tanto en el delantero como en la espalda. Ese tipo de bralettes son ideales para mujeres con poco pecho, ya que no necesitas casi el apoyo de aros ni tejidos firmes...al mismo tiempo la copa de foam da una imagen más discreta y me parece cómodo. Estoy pensando en hacerme uno para mí también, el resultado es muy bonito.

More makes: I also made my sister a bralette and panties to go with it. She asked me to copy a rtw bralette that she really liked and so I did. It's a whole lace pattern and it has foam cups to make it more practical. The cups on the rtw bralette were in one piece pre formed ones but I used cut-and-sew foam and made the cups in two pieces. It has elastic only under the bust both on the front and back pieces. This type of bralettes are ideal for women with small bust as they don't need the support from wires and firm fabrics...but at the same time the foam cup creates a nice discrete image and it's also comfortable. I'm thinking about making myself one too as the result is very pretty.

La braguita está basada en el patrón de  Lola panties de Ohhh Lulu y lo adapté a encaje con un par de cambios. El encaje de blanco con oro es realmente bonito y suave...es ideal para lencería en un color básico como blanco pero con ese toque especial dorado. El encaje es de mi tienda que ahora está de vacaciones de verano (en agosto volvemos!).

The panties are based on the Lola panties pattern from Ohhh Lulu and I adapted it for lace. The white and gold lace is really pretty and soft...it's perfect for lingerie in a basic color like white but with this extra touch of gold it looks more like something special. The lace is from my shop that's on vacations at the moment (returning in August!).

Para terminar, hice un par de cosas antes también que no publiqué aquí en el blog, sólo en mi Instagram. Unas braguitas muy bonitas con una tela lila que parece a encaje pero es muy muy suave y queda genial con sus transparencias. El patrón es lo mismo de antes.

To finish off I also made some things before that I haven't shown here in the blog, I only shared them over at my Instagram. Those panties are really pretty, made with a lilac stretch fabric that's a lot like lace but has a very soft hand and beautiful transparencies. The pattern is the same as for the previous pair.

Y luego un conjunto de bikini. Para la parte de arriba usé el patrón gratis de Sierra bra de Madalynne que realmente es para un bralette pero lo usé para el bañador. Era la versión de prueba y no tenía el cierre para la espalda así que le dejé lazos para atar tanto en el cuello como en la espalda. La parte de abajo es la braguita de Watson bikini. Pensaba hacer una entrada aparte sobre cómo adaptar estos patrones para bikini pero creo que ahora estoy en modo "hace tanto frío y sólo pienso en abrigos" así que por el momento voy a pasar de eso y os dejo la foto. Pero igual para el año que viene...jeje.

And then a bikini. For the upper part I used a free Sierra bra pattern from Madalynne which actually is a bralette pattern but I used it for swimwear. It was a test version and I didn't have a closure for the back so I left both the neck and the back with fabric straps to tie them together. The bottom is a Watson bikini. I thought about making a separate post about this make and write about how to adapt a lingerie pattern to a swimwear one but I'm currently really on the mode of "it's so cold, I only can think of coats and jackets" so at the moment I'll pass and just leave you the photo. But maybe next year...hehe.

Bueno, eso es todo por hoy. Estoy cosiendo mucho-mucho-mucho estos días de vacaciones aquí en casa de mis padres...hace mal tiempo, tengo canguros para la niña y estoy de vacaciones, así que no necesito más excusas. La semana que viene como prometido: ropa para niños.!

Well,that's it for today. I'm sewing a looot these days as I'm on vacations here at my parents house...it's cold outside, I have babysitters and I've got free time, so I really don't need any more excuses to do it. Next week as promised: kids clothes!

Me Made May 2017

Hola! Otro mes del reto Me Made May 2017 se ha acabado para este año y me gustaría hacer un pequeño resumen aquí en el blog sobre mi propia experiencia y también mostraros lo que más me gustó de lo hicieron otras.

Es el segundo año que participé y ha habido bastantes cambios en la experiencia comparado con el año pasado. Para empezar, este año todo fue más fácil, jaja. Primero porque tenía mucha más ropa que ponerme con todo lo que había cosido durante el año. Segundo porque como decidí no subir fotos todos los días, no tenía el agobio de tener que hacerlo sí o sí, cosa que hizo el mes mucho más llevadero. También he llegado a un punto donde coso cada vez más cosas que realmente me pongo y no hago prendas sólo porque me gusta como se ven aunque sé que no es mi estilo. Estoy bastante contenta con las cosas que tengo y como suelo coser prendas muy básicas, se combinan sin mucha dificultad. Me gustan los vestidos y prendas formales pero no van mucho con mi estilo de vida así que con el tiempo he ido acercándome más a lo que realmente necesito (sólo he tardado como seis años, jaja).

Hey! The Me Made May 2017 has ended for this year and I’d like to make a little conclusion post over here at the blog about my experience this year and to show you the inspiration I got from the other participants.

It was the second year for me and this year it was quite different compared to the last one. To start with, everything was way easier this year, hehe. First because I had more clothes to choose from as I had sewn quite a lot of garments during the year. Second because I decided not to share photos every day so I didn’t have the duty and the “obligation” which made the month way easier. Also I’ve now reached a point where I sew every time more garments I actually wear and I don’t make stuff only because I like how it looks ignoring if it’s my style or not. I’m quite happy with what I have and as I make a lot of basic stuff it’s quite easy to combine them together. I like dresses and other formal garments  but they don’t really go with my lifestyle so with time I’ve really started to make things that I actually need (only took me like six years, hehe).

También aunque no lo mencionaba, todos y cada uno de los días he llevado ropa interior hecho por mí. Hice muchas muestras para mis talleres y ahora las tengo todas para mí, así que no me puedo quejar de la variedad de encajes de todo tipo, jaja.

Lo que echaba de menos era de más pantalones y faldas, cosa que debería trabajar más a partir de ahora. También llevé un montón de prendas que ya tengo desde años y aunque es aburrido volver a hacer fotos iguales que el año pasado, estoy contenta de darle uso continuado a mis prendas porque eso significa que realmente tiene sentido poner el tiempo y el esfuerzo de hacerlas...mucho mejor que fast fashion.

Also I didn’t metion this but every day I have been wearing my handmade lingerie. I’ve made a lot of samples for my workshops and now I have them all for me, so I can’t really complain about the variety of lace in my underwear drawer, hehe.

I’m in need of more pants and skirts, I should make more in the future. Also I’ve been wearing lots of things from past years which means same photos as last year but I’m glad they are in active use in my wardrobe as this means the time and effort spent making them has been actually worth it...not much fast fashion around here.

Me gusta mucho también que durante este mes hay tanta inspiración al ver lo que lleva y hace todo el mundo. Ahora tengo una larga cola de cosas que quiero coser después de ver tantas prendas bonitas! Suzón by République du Chiffon

Hola! Como prometido en mi último newsletter (te has apuntado?), os enseño mi nueva blusa con el patrón Suzón de République du Chiffon...y una variación más porque ya que estamos, verdad? Quería decir que pocas veces me enamoro rápido de algún patrón en concreto y obsesiono con él hasta tenerlo, pero a quién le voy a engañar...es bastante frecuente (gracias patrones pdf, jaja). Y esta vez me pasó cuando vi esta versión hecho con una de las telas más bonitas de Atelier Brunette.

Hey! As promised in my last newsletter (have you signed up?), I’m bringing you my new blouse with a pattern called Suzón from République du Chiffon...and another variation of the same pattern, as we’re already here, right? I wanted to say that I hardly ever fall in love with a specific pattern and obsess until I have it in my hands but who am I kidding...it’s quite frequent actually (thanks pdf patterns, hehe). This time it happened when I saw this version made with one of the prettiest Atelier Brunette fabrics.

El patrón realmente es de una blusa con corte bastante sencillo con el cuello mao y tiene un detalle de frunce muy bonito que está tanto en el delantero como en la espalda. Los frunces se llevan mucho esta temporada y me imagino que por eso este patrón también está disfrutando de bastante popularidad ahora ya que no es del todo nuevo pero se ve mucho por redes sociales. 

The pattern has quite a simple style line with a mandarin collar and a beautiful detail of a ruffle both on front and back pieces. The ruffles are quite on trend this season and I guess that’s one of the reasons this pattern is so popular at the moment over at social media, as it’s not the newest release actually.

El patrón sólo viene en papel y no en pdf y yo usé la versión en francés. No leí mucho las instrucciones porque es bastante sencillo de coser (y no sé francés, jaja), sólo tienes que estar pendiente de cuadrar todo...y descosí varias veces aunque como he dicho, es sencillo, jaja. El patrón no lleva márgenes y allí era que lo lié un poco y me olvidé de darle al bajo de la tapeta de botones también más margen, cosa que luego pude más o menos arreglar. Los frunces al principio se me quedaron en alturas distintas y me pasaron más cosas típicas de ir con prisas, jaja.

Aunque me correspondía según las medidas la talla 38, al final mejor el 40, me parece que deja más espacio para respirar (el calor de verano, ya sabes…). Las pinzas las bajé un poco ya que me quedaban demasiado arriba y también cambié un poco el largo de ellas. Aparte de eso la primera blusa salió sin modificaciones.

The pattern only comes in paper format and I used the French version. I didn’t read the instructions much as it’s not very complicated to sew (and I also don’t understand French, haha), you just need to be patient to align all the pieces correctly...I of course had to unpick several times but believe me, it’s not a very difficult make. The pattern does not include seam allowances and that’s where I got a bit distracted and forgot to add the extra margin for the front button placket, fortunately I could more or less fix that mistake later. The ruffles were misaligned at the beginning  too and I had more typical fast sewing mistakes, hehe, but mostly my common little problems.

Although I was at size 38 according to the measurements chart, I find 40 better as it’s a bit more comfortable and allows more movement (summer heat, you know…). I had to lower the darts a bit as they were too high for me and I also reduced their length. Apart from that the blouse has no other modifications.

He usado una tela muy bonita, suave y ligera de algodón comprada en Ribes y Casals. Compré dos metros para hacerme un vestido pero se me ocurrió lo de la blusa y como de costumbre no lo pensé dos veces (por suerte pude vender el metro que me sobró a una alumna a quien le gustó también esa tela). La tela queda muy bien para este corte, lo único que quizás para mi gusto el volante queda un pelín demasiado pronunciado al no tener una caída como por ejemplo viscosa o telas finas similares. Estoy todavía en proceso de pensar si el volante me convence o no, jeje. Así que eso sería importante considerar antes de hacer cualquier cosa con volantes...su aspecto cambia muchísimo según la tela (realmente ya he escrito sobre un tema similar en este post).

I used a really beautiful fabric, it’s a soft and light weight cotton from Ribes y Casals. I bought two meters to make myself a dress but the blouse came up and as usual I didn’t really think twice before cutting the piece (fortunately I could sell the remaining meter to a student who also liked the fabric). The fabric is really good for that kind of blouse, I’d maybe say that for my personal preference the ruffle is just a tiny bit too stiff as the fabric doesn't really have the same drape as a viscose or similar lightweight fabrics would have. I’m still processing if I like the ruffle that way or not, haha. So here’s a little thing to remind yourself when planning a sewing project with ruffles...the aspect of the ruffles changes dramatically according to the fabric you use (actually I wrote about a similar topic a while back in that post too).

Ya que el corte me gustó mucho, decidí hacer otra versión pero sin volante con una tela de viscosa que tenía comprado de nuevo para algún vestido de verano (así vamos…). Esta tela la compré esta primavera en Tejidos Paredes donde normalmente no voy porque no me llaman la atención sus telas para coser prendas y la mayoría son de poliéster etc. Pues allí encontré esta viscosa que me gustó, el estampado me parece muy bonito. Al mismo tiempo reconozco que podría ser muy de “vieja” (perdón!) dependiendo qué tipo de prenda se cose con ella. Pero me gusta el resultado, aunque cuesta creerlo, en el verano soy muy de flores, jaja.

As I really liked the fit of the blouse in general I decided to make another version but this time without the ruffles using a viscose fabric I again had bought for a dress (that’s how I roll…). I bought this fabric in Tejidos Paredes this spring although I normally don’t visit that shop so often as I’m not really a fan of their dressmaking fabrics, the majority are polyester etc. But this time I got lucky with that floral print. I really love it but at the same time I find that it can be quite “old lady” style depending on what you make with it. But I’m happy with the result, I know it doesn’t sound like me, but I’m all flowers in the summertime, haha.

Cambié el patrón uniendo las partes de la espalda y delantero que antes estaban divididos para poder meter el frunce. Hice la espalda un poco más larga con un bajo con curva. Y el delantero lo corté en doblez añadiendo 1,5 cm en el centro doblez para compensar lo que mide la tapeta (o sea, su mitad) para que cuadre el cuello. Después le hice una tapeta con un par de botones y ya está. Ha quedado guay y me gusta que la viscosa tiene buena caída y hace que esa blusa sea muy cómoda de llevar.

I modified the pattern joining the front and back pieces that were divided before to make room for the ruffle. I made the back piece a bit longer with a curved hem. I added 1,5 cm to the center of the front piece and cut it on fold to make up half of the button placket width (1,5 cm would be the half of it) in order to make it have the same shape to fit the collar. I then made a little opening with a new placket and added the buttons. I like the result and the drape of the viscose makes it a very comfortable garment to wear.

Así que dos más en el armario. Y me parece que va a haber más porque este patrón también tiene la extra de manga larga y esta versión es lo más! Últimamente noto que cuando coso algún patrón, luego casi siempre hago una segunda o tercera versión...os tengo preparado una par de cosas más que he cosido mientras he estado ausente aquí en el blog. Así que la semana que viene más blusas, me parece!

So two more blouses in my closet. And I think there will be more because this pattern has a long sleeve add on and this version is sooo pretty! Lately I find myself sewing a pattern various times...so I actually have more stuff I’ve sewn up while not writing over here. So probably there will be more blouses next week!

Moss & Ogden

Hola! Hoy estamos de festivo en Madrid y me he animado a escribir un post aquí después de dos meses. Realmente estaba entre o escribir este post o poner un cartel de “cerrado (ojalá!) por vacaciones” en la portada de mi web. Muchas cosas...la vida, el trabajo y la primavera han pasado y esto aquí se quedó en algún sitio olvidado en el final de las prioridades. Pero siguiendo la frase de “Cuando te cansas, aprende a parar un rato, en vez de dejarlo todo”, estoy de vuelta. Así que empezamos.

Hay dos patrones esta primavera que me han gustado mucho y he cosido un par de prendas que combinan entre sí bastante bien. Sencillos, básicos y me los pongo mucho: más o menos exactamente lo que busco cuando coso para mí. Son la falda Moss de Grainline Studio y la blusa Ogden de True Bias. Ninguno de los dos patrones son nuevos, pero lo bueno sigue siendo bueno por un rato largo.

Hey! We’re on holiday here in Madrid today and I’ve finally put myself together to write a post here after two months. I was actually thinking either I’d write this post or hang a sign saying “closed (hopefully!) for vacations” on the main page of this blog. Lots of things...life, work and spring have been happening and this little project has been in the end row of my priorities. But I’d like to follow the phrase “When you get tired, learn to rest, not quit” so I’m back now. Let’s start.

There are two patterns this spring I’ve been liking a lot and I made some garments that combine pretty well. Simple, basic and I’ve been wearing them a lot: more or less exactly the qualities I’m looking for in my personal sewing projects. These are the Moss skirt from Grainline Studio and Ogden cami from True Bias. Neither of the two patterns are newcomers but the good suff keeps on being good for quite some time.

Primero la falda. Es un patrón súper básico con bolsillos en los laterales y canesú en la espalda. Queda bien en tejidos con algo de cuerpo. La primera versión lo hice el verano pasado en una tela negra que por desgracia se llena muy fácil de pelusas y no he llevado esta falda mucho más desde entonces.

First the skirt. The pattern is a wonderful basic wardrobe builder with pockets and a back yoke. It looks great in medium weight fabrics. My first version was made already last summer in a black fabric that unfortunately picks up all kinds of lint and I haven’t really worn it too much since then.

La segunda lo hice con una tela de pana gris oscuro y es casi igual a una falda que tenía hace años y que me encantó. Lo que he aprendido de coser con pana es que mejor que lleve algo de poliéster aparte de algodón, sino el mismo problema de pelusas, así que esta tela va muy bien y tiene también un poquito de elastán para más comodidad.

Adapté el patrón aquí un poco, me gustó que sea un pelín más estrecha, le habré quitado unos 1,5 cm en el bajo creo. Quiero recordar que le quité unos cm de largo también, pero no puedo estar segura 100%. Eso de escribir después de varios meses tiene sus cosas…

I made the second version with a dark grey corduroy fabric and it’s almost the same as a skirt I used to own and love. What I’ve learnt from sewing with corduroy is that it’s better when there’s some polyester in the composition instead of 100% cotton, as this helps to prevent the problem with lint. This one has also some spandex for a little extra comfort, and I really like it.

I modified the pattern a tiny bit, I wanted it to be a bit closer fitting so I took away aprox 1,5 cm in the hemline to straighten the side seams. I think I made it also a bit shorter but can’t really be sure 100%. Writing after many months has its disadvantages...

Para la cinturilla y los forros de los bolsillos usé la tela muy mona de cactus que usé después para un vestido que voy a enseñar aquí también (por lo menos dentro de los siguientes seis meses...digo yo). Me encanta el detalle de añadir algo así de estampados dentro de las prendas sencillas.

I used a really cute cactus fabric for the waistband and pocket lining, I’ve used the same fabric for a dress later, I’ll show that one soon too (at least during next six months I hope…). I love the fun print detail to give some spark to my normal basic clothes.

Las instrucciones de cómo coser la cremallera tipo vaquero no me parecen muy buenas en este patrón y lo hice de memoria según el método que hago yo siempre. Recuerdo que en los vaqueros Ginger estaba mucho mejor explicado. Total que cada uno elige su método preferido y se queda con él, no es que uno sea lo correcto y otro no.

I found the instructions for sewing the jeans type zipper a bit confusing on this pattern so I just followed the way I normally sew this kind of zippers. I liked the instructions on Ginger jeans pattern for example a lot more. Anyway, you kind of pick your method and stay with it I guess, it’s not that one would be wrong or anything.

La tercera falda lo hice con una tela que tenía por casa de estampado de pato de gallo, con las mismas modificaciones etc. Aquí usé para la cinturilla y los forros una tela de viscosa y me encanta como ha quedado porque cuando me meto las manos dentro de los bolsillos son tannnn suaves, jaja. No, de verdad, es un lujo. No sé si un lujo algo frágil, porque la tela es más fina que el algodón de cactus de la otra falda, pero oyes, tendré cuidado para mantener ese detalle secreto, jaja.

The third skirt was made with a check fabric I had in my stash, with the same mods etc. I used a viscose fabric for the linings this time and I really love how it turned out as when I put my hands inside the pockets they are soooo soft, hehe. Like honestly, it’s something fancy. Not sure if it’s fancy fragile , as the viscose fabric is lighter than the cactus lining I used for the other skirt buut well, I’ll try to be careful with my secret detail there, hehe.

La blusa Ogden es un patrón que se ha visto también mucho por Instagram y es ideal porque es súper fácil de coser y queda genial tanto con tela lisas como estampados. La primera prueba la hice con una tela de poliéster negra que tenía en casa de los tiempos anteriores cuando solía comprar cualquier cosa. La blusa muy bien, pero es que poliéster es tan malo para prendas con vuelo, enseguida se te pega toda la tela a la tripa y también como no respira vas sudando. Para entretiempo sin demasiado calor me parece bien...pero sigue siendo incómodo para mí. Lo único que cambié en la primera versión era el ancho de los tirantes que los hice más finas, con el ancho de 1 cm al final.

The Ogden cami pattern has been a lot around Instagram too and it’s really a great basic pattern which is so easy to sew and it looks good both with solids and prints. I made the first version to test the fit with a black polyester fabric I had around here that I had from times when I used to buy any kind of fabrics. The top is great but the fabric is horrible for flowy garments like that, as the fabric instantly sticks to your body and won’t breathe. For early spring with not much heat it’s ok...but in general it’s very uncomfortable for me. I made the straps a bit narrower than in the original, the end width is aprox 1 cm.

La segunda versión que es un poco imposible fotografiar para que quede bien, la hice con una viscosa de estampado blanco y negro. Para los tirantes usé esta vez el tirante de sujetador y me parece un detalle guay para darle más contraste. Alargué un poco la parte de la espalda y estretché un poco el ancho desde las sisas para que haya un pelín menos de vuelo.

The second version is really hard to photograph to show it off in a nice way, I made it witha black and white print viscose fabric. This time I used a bra strap elastic for the straps and I find this detail quite nice to give it a bit of contrast. I made the back a bit longer and cut down the width of the top in general to make it a bit straighter.

La tercera y mi favorita la acabé el viernes. Está hecho con una tela de tencel que compré hace poco en Ribes y Casals. Mi idea inicial era usar esta tela para un vestido camisero ancho o algo similar (Kalle quizás?) pero luego en casa el tono este de azul me empezó a gritar “hospital” y tuve que cambiar de planes. Necesitaba algo más “femenino” quizás con algo de vuelo. Se me ocurrió hacer el Ogden y estoy encantada (también ahora tengo un trozo grande de la tela que sobró y que no sé ya qué hacer con él, jaja).

The thrd and my favourite was finished last Friday. It’s made witha blue tencel fabric I bought recently in Ribes y Casals. My initial idea was to use this fabric for an oversized shirt dress or something similar (maybe a Kalle?) but later at home the tone of this blue started to scream “hospital” to my face so I had to change up the game. I needed something more “femenine”, maybe something with more drape. So I decided to try it out with an Ogden and it’s perfect (now I have a good piece of fabric left and don’t know what to do with it, of course…)

La tela de tencel la he usado por primera vez y no es milagro que me guste porque es prácticamente el primo de viscosa/rayon, que es mis favorito. El mismo tacto suave suave y origen natural (celulosa) pero ahora con más cuerpo y una caída muy muy bonita. Si podéis conseguir esa tela, es maravillosa...en Ribes había un par de colores si recuerdo bien.

It’s the first time I use tencel and no wonder I love it so as it’s basically a cousin of my favourite fabric viscose/rayon. The same soft hand and natural origin (cellulose) but with more body and a beautiful drape. If you can get hands on a tencel fabric, go for it, it’s beautiful...there were some more colors in Ribes if I remember right.

Así que nada, estas son las cositas que he hecho últimamente. Y bastantes más tengo para hacer fotos, así que espero estar otra vez en mi rutina de publicar una vez a la semana. Cazadora bomber de Ottobre Design // Bomber jacket from Ottobre Design

Hola, no he escrito en un tiempo pero aquí estoy de vuelta con una cazadora que he hecho. Normalmente suelo publicar aquí mis proyectos que se terminan con éxito pero esta vez es diferente porque la cazadora se va a ir por el momento al cajón de "cosas que hay que terminar/arreglar/olvidar"...ahora os cuento el por qué.

Bueno, todo empezó bien cuando vi que en la nueva revista de Ottobre Design de mujer viene un patrón de muy buena pinta. Ya estaba pensando en una cazadora bomber desde hace tiempo y estaba contenta de encontrar el patrón adecuado. Me puse las manos a la obra y fui a buscar la tela. No sabía muy bien qué quería, tampoco me gustaban demasiadas pero al final me quedé con una tela de raso (para usar el revés sin brillo) de grosor medio en color rosa claro que tiene buen cuerpo y la caída que va bien con este patrón. 

Hey, I haven't been around here for some time but now I'm back with this bomber I've made. I normally post here the stuff I've made and I like but this time it's different as this bober goes to "the pile of stuff that needs to be finished/fixed/forgotten"...I'll tell you why.

Well, it all started great when I saw the new Ottobre Design women's issue and there was this good looking pattern. I'd been thinking about a bober for a while and I was quite happy to find a pattern for it. So I went to buy the fabric. I wasn't really sure what I wanted and there were not so many things I liked but in the end I found a medium weight satin fabric (I used the wrong side without sheen) in nude pink that had good weight and drape for this type of pattern.

En Ribes y Casals no había tela de puño en ese tono ni nada similar así que decidí darle algo de contraste y escogí la tela de puño en negro para el cuello, el bajo y los puños, también compré la cremallera metálica en negro.

La construcción general de la cazadora no es muy difícil, las mangas rangán tienen un corte algo distinto del ranglán normal, no llegan al cuello y terminan antes. Cuando lo probé la primera vez vi muchas arrugas en las mangas y eso me alarmó bastante porque no tengo ni idea cómo modificar la manga de este tipo de corte para que quede bien. En la revista sólo vienen dos fotos así que tampoco pude comprobar si eso era normal o no. Una vez puestos los puños, la cosa se mejoró ligeramente pero al final algo pasa allí, estoy segura.

There wasn't rib knit in matching color in Ribes y Casals so I decided to go for some contrast and bought the black ribbing to use in the collar, the cuffs and the hem band, I also got a black metal zipper.

The main construction of the bomber isn't too difficult, the ranglan sleeves have a bit different cutting lines compared to a normal ranglan sleeve, they don't end at the neckline and only go to a point in the shoulder seam. When I tried it on the first time I saw many wrinkles on the sleeves and it was quite alarming as I knew I had no idea how to alter the seams on this type of sleeve to make them look ok. There are only two photos in the magazine, so I also couldn't see if this was considered normal or not. Once I sewed on the cuffs it got a bit better but I'm sure there's still something wrong there.

Los problemas serios empezaron con coser la cremallera porque la tapeta al final resulta que es medio cm corta, cosa que hizo el tema de cuadrar los dos lados bastante difícil (hasta que me di cuenta que era corta al comparar el patrón). Aparte de eso tenía que recortar la cremallera y ya lo estaba liando con los largos de cada lado. Ya no coincidía nada y estaba arreglando y volviendo a coser y así tantas veces que ya estaba muy harta de llegar al final. Además al principio uní la cremallera muy cerca de los dientes porque mi interpretación de las instrucciones que decían de usar el prensatelas de la cremallera para unir la cremallera al forro, era que la tenía que coser cerca. Pues eso hacía que para tapar la primera costura tuve que ir aún más cerca y al final la cremallera pillaba la tela al cerrar y abrir. Volví a descoser todo y dejarle más margen, pero aún así los problemas seguían. Tampoco facorece que haya tanto contraste entre la tela y el puño por ejemplo porque todo se ve mucho mejor, jaja.

Entonces llegué al punto de abandono. Y eso más que por los fallos costuriles porque creo que lo que más me molesta de la cazadora al final es que su corte en la espalda es muy amplia y eso no me termina de convencer. Que oyes, eso no es un fallo del patrón ni nada, mis gustos más bien, pero al final no me gusta nada como me queda en la espalda. No hay foto de eso ni de las arrugas de las mangas porque estaba tan harta de la cazadora que pasé de hacerle más fotos. Pero os aseguro que los fallos están allí y aunque me da pena la tela y las horas que he puesto en coser...va a ser que no sigo con este proyecto.

The real stuggle started with the zipper, first because the pattern piece for the zipper band is half cm too short which made lining things up difficult (until I figured out that this was the problem when comparing the pattern pieces). Apart from that I needed to cut down the zipper and this made lining things up a nightmare too. Everything was moving and shifting and I unpicked and sewed it on again and again and got very frustrated. Also I first sewed on the zipper close to the teeth as this was the way I understood the instructions when they said that you have to use the zipper foot to sew on the zipper to the lining. This means I had to stitch even closer when joining the exterior and the lining and in the end the zip was not moving well and got stuck with the fabric. I unpicked again and sewed it on but the problems didn't go away. The fabric and ribbing cotrast of course makes all the mistakes to stand out even more, hehe.

So it was time to surrender.  Apart from many sewing troubles I guess what really made up my mind was that the back is really wide and I really don't like the final look on me. Hey, it's no pattern problem, just my personal likes and dislikes but I just don't feel it's me. There's no back picture nor the sleeve wrinkle picture as I was so upset to take more photos of the damn thing. But I can assure you that the mistakes are there and altough I feel bad for the waisted fabric and the hours I've put in...I won't continue with this proyect.

Le falta todavía arreglar la cremallera que no coincide en el cuello y dar todos los pespuntes para asentar las costuras....y la plancha. Uno de los posibles problemas creo que ha sido también la tela de puño. El negro que tenían es como muy flojo y creo que eso hace también que no recoge bien el bajo y lo deja demasiado suelto, aún más de lo que ya es por el corte.

Alargué las mangas por 1 cm pensando que Ottobre talla bastante bien para la gente alta pero hubiera tenido que añadir 2 cm más, que las mangas siguen siendo demasiada cortas por mi gusto.

Pfff...he escrito todo eso para recordarmelo yo...no por desanimar a alguien quien quiere usar este patrón, aunque seguro que así parece, jaja. Aunque me da rabia de haber gastado tiempo en un proyecto que no me sirve, pues de todo se aprende!! Ahora quiero coser algo que no me de tanta guerra para intoxicarme de esa experiencia. Dejo la cazadora para otro momento...que quizás venga un día, jaja.

The zipper still needs to be fixed, it's not aligned correctly in the neckline,  also all the topstitching to keep everything in place...and the pressing. I think that one of the possible problems was also the ribbing. The black one they had is just too loose and I think this makes also the hem too loose and it's not gathering the fabric enough and instead makes everything just too wide.

I lenghtened the sleeves for 1 cm thinking that Ottobre has quite good fit for taller people but I should have added 2 cm more, the sleeves are too short for me.

Pfff...I've written this to remind myself of everything that happened...not to say that you shouldn't try out this pattern, altough it sure sounds like I do, haha. Yes it makes me angry to have waisted time on a project that didn't work out but you do learn frome everything!! I now need to sew something that would make me forget about this make. I'll leave the bomber for another moment...that might come some day, hehe.

Me gustó mucho como quedó el forro y mi etiqueta del zorrito...para terminar con un pensamiento positivo jajaaaa. Ah, y otro pensamiento positivo más, como ya he compartido en Instagram, hice un jersey con el patrón de sudadera de uno de los Ottobre de niño en la talla 170 cm de chica y va muy bien. Así que seguramente usaré en el futuro más patrones de esa talla que muchas veces tienen cosas guays allí.

I really liked the lining and my fox label though...to say something to leave with a positive impression, hahaa. Oh, and another good thing: as I already shared on Instagram, I made a sweater with a pattern from Ottobre kids magazine in a size 170 cm and it turned out good. So I'll definitely use their patterns again for myself as they have pretty  cool stuff for kids that comes also in the larger sizes.

Moneta from Colette Patterns

Hola, feliz sábado! Por fin he escrito un post sobre este vestido que ya hice el año pasado para las navidades. Aprovechando que en Instagram este finde se está celebrando la #monetaparty pensaba que ya era la hora de subir mis fotos al blog también para así de paso enseñaros este patrón.

Hey, happy Saturday! I finally wrote a post about this dress I made last year for the Christmas. As there's the #monetaparty up on Instagram during this weekend I tought it was about time to finally blog about it and to show you my version of it.

El patrón de Moneta no es nada nuevo, lleva ya tiempo en el mercado y no lo había cosido antes porque no sabía exactamente si me convencía el corte o no. Tiene frunces justo en la cintura, no es el sitio que yo suelo resaltar en mis prendas. De hecho había comprado el patrón ya el verano pasado y hasta tenía la tela lavada para hacer una prueba, pero al final tardé casi medio año más.

Pues eso, al coser no es tan fácil que te pruebas antes el vestido y decides enseguida que si te gusta el corte en tu cuerpo o no (porque hay muchos cortes que me gustan, pero no necesariamente me parecen adecuadas para mi cuerpo...). Así que como ya estoy en la fase de poco tiempo para coser y con ganas de coser algo que realmente me guste, siempre dudo antes si merece la pena invertir el tiempo o no. 

Compré la tela de punto de viscosa con elastán para hacer la prueba en Ribes y Casals, es una tela fina, con buena caída. Para frunces va muy bien porque no abulta como lo haría una tela más gruesa. Sin embargo, en mi opinión no va bien con cortes rectos en vestidos porque el resultado es similar a un camisón.

The Moneta dress pattern is not new, actually it has been out there for quite some time now but I hadn’t sewn it yet because I wasn’t really sure if the particular fit was for me or not. It has gathers just in the waist and it’s not really a place I’m used to draw attention to in my garments. I had bought the pattern already last summer and I even had the fabric washed and waiting to be cut but in the end it took half a year to finally start the process.

So the thing with sewing a garment is that you can’t just try it on before and decide if you like how it looks on your body (because there are many styles I love but I don’t see them on my body at all…). And I’m currently in a phase where I have little time for personal sewing projects and I really want the things that I do sew to be something I like in the end, so I’m always thinking if it makes sense to put the time into a specific project.

I bought the knit viscose fabric with elastan to make a muslin from Ribes y Casals, it’s a lightweight fabric with a good drape. The gathers go well with this type of fabric as it doesn’t end up too bulky in the end. But in my opinion it’s not very suitable for straight cut dresses as they end up looking like a night robe.

La primera prueba me salió medio bien. El corte sí que me gusta pero tenía que hacer varios ajustes. Me parece que Colette hace sus patrones para cuerpos con más curvas y me sobró bastante en la parte del pecho, la talla M que corté según mis medidas, al final lo ajusté a S en la parte de arriba del cuerpo. Las mangas también me quedaron anchas pero con la remalladora era fácil de quitar lo que sobró. De todas maneras el primer vestido al final lo di a mi hermana y a ella le va perfecto.

Para la versión definitiva usé una tela de punto de viscosa también, esta vez con un estampado muy bonito y aunque la tela también es fina, tiene una caída mucha más bonita y es súper suave. Reducí el ancho de la manga y las hice en general más largas para que sean más o menos de ¾ de largo. El cuello lo subí lo hice más tipo cuello barco. La falda la corté unos 5 cm más corta si recuerdo bien, me gusta más que quede encima de la rodilla.

The first attempt was half good. I liked the style of the dress but I had to do many alterations. I think that Colette drafts their patterns for curvier bodies as there was quite some extra room in the bust area for me, the size M I cut for the bodice had to be cut down to S in the upper part of it. The sleeves were too wide too but it was easy to fix with a serger. I gave the first dress to my sister and fortunately it was all good on her.

For the final version I also used a viscose knit fabric, but this time with a beautiful floral print on it and although it’s lightweight too, it’s much softer and has very beautiful drape. I reduced the width of the sleeves and made them longer to have the ¾ length. I added some length to the neckline to have a boat neck and cut down the skirt for about 5 cm if I remember well, I like my skirts above the knee better.

La construcción del vestido es muy fácil y se cose en nada con la remalladora, los bajos los hice con doble aguja de punto. Lo que me pareció un poco raro era que había la pieza del patrón tanto para el delantero como para el trasero de la falda y al final eran prácticamente la misma cosa, y me hubiera gustado ahorrar papel y sólo imprimir y pegar un patrón en vez de dos, que llenan mucho papel. Me encanta que tiene bolsillos, no es que lleve allí nada importante pero me gusta la posibilidad de usarlos, jeje. Al usar en la cinturilla el elástico transparente para fruncir las frunces se quedan muy bonitas y se reparten igual por todo el recorrido, es un buen truco.

El vestido ya lo hice en las navidades y lo he llevado varias veces. Cosa que es todo un acontecimiento porque no soy muy de vestidos en el invierno. Ahora quería hacer más fotos para este post pero no ha salido gran cosa: ya lo estaba notando y al poner el vestido vi que he ganado un par de kilos desde que lo hice...así que mis ánimos para sacar fotos bajaron considerablemente, jaja. El vestido es de punto y se da de sí, así que no es tan grave pero bueno, en general...debería comer menos galletas y dar más paseos, esa es mi conclusión de la “sesión de fotos”.

Como ya dije antes, este finde está en Instagram la #monetaparty y podéis ver un montón de versiones diferentes de este vestido, así que la inspiración no va a faltar!

The construction part of the dress is really easy and it comes together so fast with a serger, I also used the double stretch needle for all of the hems. The weird thing was that there were different pattern pieces for the front and back skirt pieces although they were practically the same pattern. I would have liked to save up on paper there and to not print both of them. I love the pockets, not that I put much in there but I like the possibility to use them anyway, hehe. Using the clear elastic for gathering the waist is a cool trick to get all the shirring really even on all the parts of the waistline too.

I made the dress back in the last Christmas and I’ve been wearing it for many times since. It's actually a big deal as I normally don’t really wear dresses in the winter. I wanted to take more photos of it for this post but nothing really good came out: I was already noticing it and when putting on the dress I saw that I’ve gained some kilos since I made it ...so my motivation for the photos really vanished, hehe. It’s a knit dress and it has give so it’s not too much of a problem but in general..I should really eat less cookies and move around more, that's my conclusion from this “photosession”.

As I said earlier, this weekend there’s the #monetaparty held in Instagram so you can see so many variations of this pattern, there will me lots of inspiration for sure!

Editado: acabo de recordar que hice un vestido más con este patrón, jajaaa...se me van las cosas. El tercero lo hice con una tela con menos caída y con algo más de cuerpo, me encanta el estampado de este! Sólo tengo esta foto de Instagram que hice cuando lo estaba cosiendo. Me lo había olvidado porque lo dejé a Estonia, no me cabía en la maleta...igual que mi abrigo de invierno que se quedó allí sin terminar!!

Edit: I just remembered that I made another Moneta dress, hahaaa...I seriously forget things. The third one was made with a slightly heavier fabric and it had less drape, I love the print on that one! I only have one photo I took for Instagram when I was sewing it. I totally forgot about it as I had to leave it in Estonia as it didn't fit in the suitcase...the same thing happened to my winter coat that was almost finished!!

Este año ha sido el primero en compartir mis costuras aquí en el blog y en Instagram, así que no sé decir si he cosido más o menos que en los años anteriores. Eso sí, este año he aprendido más que nunca y he cosido cosas que me encantan.

Lencería ha sido seguramente la palabra clave de este año y espero que lo sea para el 2017 también. Tengo muchas cosas en progreso y me gustaría ya enseñaros todo lo que tengo en la mesa de corte!

Este año ha sido especial también porque he conocido a amigas costureras de verdad, de estas que les flipan los patrones y que saben lo difícil que es no entrar a una tienda de telas, jeje....ha sido un gran placer compartir algo que hago todos los días con gente que sí que entiende de lo que estás hablando! Y también he tenido suerte de trabajar con alumnas muy majas que me aportan mucho y me hacen tener el trabajo más guay del mundo. Y si digo que lo que más feliz me hace es la costura y ya habéis visto que algo de coser he hecho este año...pues que ha sido un año muy bonito y productivo y espero que siga así el año que viene!

Espero que lo paséis muy bien en las fiestas de nochevieja y nos vemos aquí en el 2017!

This year has been the first one sharing my sewing on this blog and on Instagram, so I can’t really tell if I made less or more things on the previous years. What I can say is that this year I’ve learned and experimented more than ever and I’ve made things I really love.

Lingerie has for sure been the highlight of this year and I hope it will be so for the next year too. I have many projects in progress and I can’t wait to show you what’s on my cutting table!

This year I also met my first real sewing friends, the ones who are crazy about patterns and understand how difficult it is not to enter a fabric shop, hehe...it has been a pleasure to share something I do daily with people who actually get what you are talking about! Also I’ve been very lucky to work with students who give me so much positive energy and make my job the best one in the world. And if I tell you that the thing that makes me the happiest is sewing, and you can see that some sewing I’ve done this year...well it has been a very beautiful and productive year and hopefully it will be like this also next year!

Lara Sanner Sewing Patterns

Hola! Hoy os traigo después de mucho tiempo algo de la sección infantil. He cosido una ranita con el patrón de Lara Sanner y os voy a contar un poco sobre sus patrones y mi experiencia con éste en particular.

Hey! After a long time today I'm bringing you something from the kids section. I've made a romper with a sewing pattern from Lara Sanner and I'll tell you a bit about her patterns and about this one in particualr.

Este otoño conocí a Lara  en persona, pero su trabajo ya lo había visto antes por internet. Es una chica muy maja que hace patrones de costura para bebés y niños y también enseña en las clases de costura en Black Oveja en Madrid. Está poco a poco empezando a sacar más modelos y me gusta mucho su estilo moderno y diferente.

This autumn I had a pleasure to meet Lara in person but I had seen her work online before too. She's a really nice person who makes sewing patterns for babies and kids and also teaches sewing classes in Black Oveja in Madrid. She's launching more patterns these days and I really like her clean and modern style.

Cuando me quedé con ella intercambiamos cositas: ella me dio un patrón suyo y yo le di un kit de lencería de los míos. Así que no he comprado este patrón pero mi valoración del patrón no tiene que ver con ese hecho, jeje.

En este patrón vienen diferentes modelos: vestido, mono y ranita en tallas de 0-24 meses. Aunque a mi nena le valdría probablemente todavía por ejemplo el vestido, tengo que reconocer que me da mucha pereza planchar y evito a toda costa que ella tenga ropa que no sea de punto (#malamadre) y por eso decidí mejor hacer la ranita para regalar a un bebé más pequeño.

When I met her we exchanged some things: she gave me this pattern and I gave her one of my lingerie kits. So this means I didn't buy this pattern but my opinion is not affected by that fact, hehe.

This pattern has three variations: a dress, a jumpsuit and a romper in sizes 0-24 months. Altough my girl could probably fit into the dress in that pattern, I have to say that I'm super lazy about ironing clothes and I always try to avoid making/buying her clothes that are not made from knit fabrics (sorry, lazy mom here) and that's why I decided to make this romper for a baby boy as a gift instead.

Lo que mola de los patrones de Lara Sanner es que tienen todo explicado paso a paso. Y si digo todo, es porque es TODO. Estaba leyendo las instrucciones y hasta me hice con palabras técnicas nuevas gracias a entender los dibujos al lado. Las revistas Burda y Patrones...allí voy que ahora me entero (un poquíto más) que decís en vuestras explicaciones en castellano, jajaaaa.

The cool thing about Lara Sanners patterns is that everything is explained step by step. And by everything I mean EVERYTHING. I was reading the instructions and actually learnt some new tecnical sewing terms in Spanish thanks to the drawings next to the text. Burda and Patrones magazines...here I come as I might even understand (a bit more) your instructions in Spanish, hahaa.

Aparte del texto, como he dicho, vienen los dibujos técnicos que ayudan mucho y hacen muy claro el proceso y por eso me parecen patrones muy guays para gente que empieza a coser porque son fáciles de entender desde el principio hasta el final.

As I mentioned, apart from the text there are nice drawings to clear the steps out for you so that's why I think these patterns are very beginner friendly because you can really understand the process from the beginning until the end.

Las técnicas generelaes como fruncir o coser botones a mano también tienen su sitio en las explicaciones, es muy completo todo y parece un pequeño libro de costura. Me alegro mucho de ver algo así en castellano!

The general sewing techniques like gathering or sewing buttons by hand also have their separate space in the instructions, it's really a complete guide and looks like a little sewing book. I really love seeing something like that in Spanish!

Así que me ha parecido muy guay el concepto de este patrón. Me lié un poco con el cuello y estaba un rato pensando cómo encajarlo bien del todo pero creo que al final conseguí que esté de manera correcta. También aunque no vino en las explicaciones puse entretela también en la entrepierna para hacer más fuerte la parte donde van los snaps. Usé snaps tanto allí como en la abertura de la espalda porque es más fácil que coser ojales y porque los padres de este pequeño me van a dar las gracias cada vez que NO tienen que luchar con los botones para abrir la prenda (quizás todavía recuerdo demasiado bien como lo odiaba mi nena, jaja).

So I think the concept of her patterns is really cool. I was a bit confused with the collar part and where to attatch it exactly but I guess I fugured it out after some thinking (it's not too hard, right, haha). I also put inetrfacing both in the back opening and the opening between the legs to make it stronger for the snaps. I used snaps on both of the openings instead of buttons and buttonholes because it's easier for me and the lil' guys parents will thank me every time they DON'T have to fight with the buttons when changing the clothes on their baby (I guess I remember too well how my girl hated the dressing part, hahaa).

Llego a escribir este post justo cuando Lara ha sacado más patrones y esta vez de punto, aleluya! Eso sí que alegra a los padres y a los bebés también, porque oyes, ser un bebé al final es como pasar el día en el gimnasio...que si gatear, que si subir, andar, caer... Así que en mi humilde opinión las prendas de punto son lo más.

I'm writing this post exactly when Lara is launching new patterns and this time for knit fabrics, haleluyah! This should make parents and babies very happy because come on, being a baby in the end is like you'd pass the day in the gym...crawling, standing up, walking, falling down... So in my humble opinion the clothes made with knit fabrics are the best thing.

Me alegro mucho de haber conocido a Lara y que haya gente que hace un trabajo tan bonito y acerca la costura a más gente que empieza con esta afición, a través de patrones e instrucciones bien hechos. Enhorabuena Lara por tus nuevos patrones y te sigo cerca para ver qué más está por llegar!
